About Franklin Road Branch LibraryAs early as 1943, a group had formed a reading club and later petitioned the Indianapolis Public Library for materials to begin a staffed-by-volunteers library in an empty church building in Acton. In November, 1966, planning began for a permanent branch library. The Wanamaker Branch located at 8822 Southeastern Avenue opened for business on April 14, 1969. The Wanamaker Branch was one of the library system's smallest branches, with less than 3,000 square feet of public space, and it held about 23,000 books and magazines. |
