About Lawrence Branch LibraryThe Lawrence Branch Library originally opened on September 5, 1967 at 4419 North Franklin Road in a storefront building previously occupied by the Lawrence Post Office. It was the first branch library opened within an incorporated town in Marion County. As the population in Lawrence Township grew, IMCPL saw the need for a larger, permanent library facility to serve the needs of the northeast-side community. In 1974 a 3.44 acre site was purchased from the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township, and the new 19,600 square-foot library opened for service on May 16, 1983. In the winter of 2000 the Lawrence Branch underwent some renovations and received a new roof and new sky lights. The Lawrence Branch Library continues to be one of the busiest branches of IMCPL. In early 2005 it became the second total self-check library branch in the IMCPL system. |
