Families with young children are invited to enjoy spending time reading together during the 2008 November Read-Aloud Program, "Join the Very Hungry Crowd! Read Aloud!"

Inspired by 40th anniversary of the popular children's book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, this year's program encourages participants to spend at least four hours reading aloud together throughout the month.

Each family who registers will receive a free canvas book bag, ideal for carrying library books and filled with complete program resources and instructions for participating. Included in the bag is a "Read and Grow" Activity Card and eight Eric Carle Award Stickers to chart reading time.

Studies prove that introducing young children to the world of books and language is key to future learning success.

The November Read-Aloud Program is one of the Library's "Ready to Read" initiatives, designed to inspire and promote the efforts of parents and childcare professionals to actively nurture early literacy development. The goal is to help busy parents easily incorporate reading aloud into their routine through the structure, motivation and fun of a month-long program.

Registration begins November 1 at any IMCPL branch location, Central Library downtown, and the bookmobile.

The 2008 November Read-Aloud Program is made possible through the generous support of OneAmerica and TCU.
