Hometown Roots Concert Series - Americana

The Breakups

Many of central Indiana’s best musicians will participate in the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library’s new “Hometown Roots Concert Series,” which kicks off on Sunday, January 18 from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the Clowes Auditorium at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street.

The inaugural program, entitled “Americana,” will highlight music inspired by American cultural traditions. Featured performer will be Otis Gibbs, a folk artist who grew up in Wanamaker (outside Indianapolis) and now lives in Nashville, Tennessee. His latest album, “Grandpa Walked a Picketline,” offers a glimpse inside an America not seen on the evening news, but one most of us see at our doorsteps.

Gibbs played in and around Indianapolis for years before touring with Billy Bragg and topping the Euro Americana Chart with his new album.

Other performers at this program include Cliff Snyder and The Breakups. Snyder is known for his work supporting local songwriters through the Indianapolis Songwriters Cafe. The Breakups are comprised of Gary Wasson and Cara Jean Wahlers, who both have outstanding local music pedigrees with past and current credits including The Spud Puppies, Sindacato, 19Clark25, and The Warner Gear.

The Library’s “Hometown Roots Concert Series” is scheduled the third Sunday every other month, beginning with January’s “Americana” program and featuring blues, gospel, bluegrass and jazz musicians. Music CDs and artists’ merchandise will be available for sale.
